Ink, the global leader in travel media connecting companies with travellers, today announced that respected aviation journalist and editor Mary Kirby has joined them as the new editor-in-chief of the Airline Passenger Experience Media Platform. This follows Ink being engaged by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) in July this year.
Mary will be responsible for the association’s Airline Passenger Experience magazine (both printed and online), a weekly industry NewsDigest, a daily APEX EXPO publication, an editor’s blog and associated social media channels.
“The addition of Mary Kirby as the new editor-in-chief of our Airline Passenger Experience media platform will elevate the value of APEX both to our members and the industry as a whole,” said Chris Babb, President of APEX. “Mary is a well-known and respected industry commentator and I applaud Ink for bringing her on board. We look forward to working with her and the entire Ink team.”
APEX membership encompasses a network of airlines, businesses and professionals committed to providing a world-class experience for airline passengers around the globe. Additionally, APEX provides the industry with a forum for knowledge sharing, collaboration and networking.
“We are very proud that Mary has decided to join us at Ink,” said Jonathan Norris, Executive Director – APEX Media Platform, Ink. “Mary will bring a much-needed boost to the APEX editorial team and allow us to grow the magazine to six issues in 2012 as well as increase our impact in the other media channels that we manage on their behalf.”
For nearly 12 years Mary has worked as both a journalist and editor for Flightglobal’s suite of online and print publications. She joined Flightglobal’s premium real-time news service Air Transport Intelligence in 1999 as regional reporter (Americas), and was promoted to deputy editor (Americas) in 2003 and later to US editor. She most recently held the title of Flight International senior editor.
Mary also wrote the highly popular Runway Girl blog and is a regular speaker at industry events. Follow Mary on Twitter at @APEXmary.

Ink, the leaders in travel media connecting companies with travellers, is pleased to announce that Metropolitan Magazine has won the “Launch of the Year” at the 2011 British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) Awards. Published by Ink for Eurostar, Metropolitan is a monthly magazine that was launched in May 2010.
With a readership of over 600,000, Metropolitan is distributed on all Eurostar trains between London and Paris and London and Brussels, and is also available in the business lounges at each station. Offering big engaging reads, beautiful design and striking photography, Metropolitan is trilingual, with content in English, French and Flemish. The magazine eschews covering the same old travel-writing ground, seeking to reveal a different side to Eurostar’s destination cities with fresh stories and alternative perspectives. The tone is smart, sophisticated and cultured with a healthy dose of wit and humour in the mix.
“We are thrilled to have our work recognised by the rest of the industry, especially competing against newsstand publications,” said Metropolitan’s editor, Jane Wright. “Working with such a prestigious brand as Eurostar sets the bar very high for producing original, engaging and thought-provoking content. We have been delighted with the reaction from Eurostar, its passengers and our peers.”
