Mags We Heart: United Hemispheres

Chic (or at least part of Chic) has recently deplaned. And for some strange reason, we were compelled to pick up the September issue of the complimentary magazine in the seatback pocket in front of us. Traditionally, these are unabashedly dismal affairs that leave us wondering why celebrity publicists sign on for cover stories. But United Hemispheres is a different beast entirely, a custom publishing success story edited by former Radar type Aaron Gell. The mag is smart, voice-y, and well-designed (love the Marc Ulriksen illos!)-not to mentioned stocked with excellent stories from familiar bylines. GQ's Mark Healy has a great piece on Uniqlo, while Sarah Horne pens one fun travel piece on Budapest and another on the return of the Halston fragrance. Jason Gay wrote something cute on the NFL that we failed to finish due to landing purposes. Plus! Cool, random products abound, like a rad bike and photogenic paprika! (The photos are better than those found in most monthlies.) After a grueling fashion week, Chic is downright invigorated. Brava, Mr. Gell. Can we subscribe?
